What do I learn in the "Basic knowledge of occupational health and safety" courses?

SUVA has defined the basic knowledge of occupational safety and health protection based on the 10 points of the EKAS safety program. This basic knowledge is taught in 2-day courses.

The content is formulated and bundled differently by the various course providers, but all cover the following topics:

• Legal bases and regulations on occupational health and safety
• Responsibility of management and safety officers
• Systematic hazard identification, STOP principle and derivation of measures
• Content and structure of an operational safety system in accordance with the FCOS 10-point program
• Health protection (ergonomics, noise, pollutants), PPE (personal protective equipment)
• Know and avoid common causes of occupational accidents
• Psychological aspects of occupational health and safety
• Reasons for risky behavior, systematic accident investigation
• Organize the involvement of ASA specialists
• Reference works: important information sheets, checklists, hazard classes, etc.
• Emergency management, emergency incidents, emergency organization

The course provides you with the ASGS basic knowledge to enable you to

• recognize hazards in your company or operating area and get them under control with targeted measures;
• can set up and maintain a security system in accordance with the applicable legislation and set up an alarm organization;
• be able to advise employees, line managers and management on the implementation of ASGS measures;
• be able to correctly interpret accident and illness statistics and derive suitable preventive measures from them;
• know when to call in ASA specialists and other experts;
• Understand what causes people to behave unsafely and how you can bring about behavioral change.
