Ayurveda massage - the somewhat different massage

In Ayurvedic massage, not only the hands are used, but the feet are also massaged. This allows you to achieve an optimal effect on the patient with a force that is not available with the hands. The body is thoroughly oiled with special oils and herbs and the Ayurveda massage is performed on the neck, back, hips and shoulders. Ayurveda massages are combined with yoga stretching techniques and unite deep, energetic and stimulating touches that have a very relaxing and calming effect.

Through meditation and the art of listening, the treatment becomes comprehensive and the patient is completely relaxed and balanced. This is also the philosophy of Ayurveda, the balance between the three doshas: Wind, Air and Earth.

Questions and answers

For most Ayurveda massage courses, no prerequisites are required, as long as they are beginners' courses. Some schools offer advanced courses that require basic knowledge of Ayurveda, but these are usually marked as such.

The Master of Science degree program is not exclusively focused on Ayurvedic massages, but provides you with a solid and comprehensive education in Ayurvedic medicine. In addition to the Ayurvedic basics, this also includes diagnostics, manual therapy, phytotherapy, psychology, detoxification procedures and much more.

On the shelf, health schools do not just offer a single Ayurveda course, but a range of courses that focus on the different aspects of this form of therapy. Since Ayurveda massage does not consist of just one form of massage, but combines different concepts, some schools may favor some types of massage and teach others only marginally or not at all. Other schools teach Abhyanga full body massage, Kalari full body massage, Padabhyanga foot and leg massage, Mukabhyanga facial massage, Pristhabhyanga back massage, Udvarthana, Garshan, Shiroabhyanga, Langhana or Shirodhara treatments. Other Ayurvedic treatments can also be taught in a course, so please contact the schools directly to enquire about the course content.

Anyone wishing to register with the Experience Medicine Register (EMR) using the Ayurveda massage method must provide evidence of at least 150 hours of experience medicine training and 150 hours of conventional medicine training. In order to have Method No. 22 Ayurveda (Ayur.) recognized, 500 hours of experiential medicine and 600 hours of conventional medicine are required. If you would like to register for method no. 28, please ensure that the training comprises more than 150 hours. In many places, basic training in conventional medicine is also possible, so that you can complete this training at the same school.

The courses on offer for Ayurveda massage vary greatly and include short compact seminars lasting four consecutive days as well as extensive training courses lasting a year or more.
