Questions and answers

The French language exam to obtain the Diplôme d`Etudes en Langue Française (DELF) is divided into four sections, which have different content and duration depending on the level. Up to 25 points can be achieved in all four sections, resulting in a maximum total score of 100 points. In order to pass the exam, a minimum of 50 points must be achieved, whereby no fewer than 5 points may be achieved in any section. The DELF exams are divided into the following main areas:
  • Listening comprehension
  • Reading comprehension
  • Writing
  • Speak
You can take the DELF exam at 900 different locations around the world and retake it as often as you like if you don't pass. Nevertheless, there are always costs and a certain amount of time involved, so it is advisable to prepare intensively for this language test at an early stage. Language schools offer specially developed diploma courses that provide you with comprehensive training in precisely those areas that are important for passing the exams. These diploma courses have a fixed time frame and are offered by language schools in Switzerland as well as by schools in France or another French-speaking country. In this way, you can also study for the DELF exam as part of a language trip to Guadeloupe, Canada, Monaco or Tahiti.

The Diplôme d'études en langue française (DELF) can be obtained in six levels and certifies your level of language proficiency. Levels A1 and A2 confirm that you have a basic knowledge of French, while levels B1 and B2 confirm that you have a good knowledge of the language, enabling you to express yourself well both orally and in writing. The C1 and C2 language diplomas show that you have very good language skills at a high level and can communicate fluently in almost any situation.

The DELF, the Diplôme d`Etudes en Langue Française, is a language exam developed by the French Ministry of Education exclusively for non-native speakers. This language diploma is also internationally recognized and certifies your foreign language skills. A DELF is often indispensable, especially for studying at Universities or for employment in French-speaking countries. The diploma can be obtained at four levels defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: A1, A2, B1 and B2.
