The purchasing assistant oversees the purchase of machines and raw materials and takes responsibility for the cost-effective, scheduled delivery of these. He/she is familiar with the market and works closely with other areas in the company, such as development, logistics and production. The purchasing assistant monitors the dates, quantities and prices of deliveries and coordinates stock management and storage with the goods logistics department.

Business and technical interests, negotiating skills, assertiveness, organizational talent, foreign language skills.

Education

Basic technical or commercial training and continuing education, further training in a complementary field. Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE) as a purchasing assistant.

Questions and answers

Basic vocational training (apprenticeship) as a retail salesperson is not required in order to be able to attend training as a purchasing assistant. It is also possible to complete an apprenticeship in another sector.

The training course for purchasing assistants is a certificate course that concludes with an internal school certificate or a professional association certificate, which is not federally recognized. If you are aiming for this type of training, we recommend a preparatory course for the Federal Professional Examination for Purchasing Specialists with a federal certificate.

The Purchasing Assistant course can be completed as a day course or as an evening course, so that you can choose the courses according to your working hours so that you can continue to work full-time or part-time.

Experience in purchasing is an advantage for continuing education, further training as a purchasing assistant (purchasing and procurement officer), but not a prerequisite, as the course provides basic knowledge of supply chain management and is therefore also ideally suited to those new to purchasing.

Courses that train you as a purchasing assistant or purchasing clerk usually have a manageable duration of two and a half months to six months.
