With the interior design planner training course, you will learn what influence the room layout, lighting and optimal design of interiors has on the feeling of living. You will learn everything you need to know about materials, home textiles, furniture, carpets, floor coverings, styles and color combinations. After completing the course, they will be able to sketch creative interior design ideas and create a concept and plan for sophisticated interiors.

Anyone in possession of a valid certificate of proficiency in one of the following professions will be admitted to the further training course in interior design: Interior decorator, home textile designer, floor layer, structural draughtsman, interior draughtsman, salesperson (furniture, carpets and floor coverings), carpenter, commercial employee (industry-related), upholsterer (industry). Alternatively, a corresponding proof of practical experience can also be provided.
 
After completing the interior design planner training, you will be able to provide customers with comprehensive advice and support - from initial contact to in-store or on-site advice on partial room design, interior design or complete home furnishings. The aim is to bring the finished design closer to the customer. In concrete terms, this means carrying out the following tasks:

  • Design, plan and organize furnishing projects of different sizes and durations
  • Informing customers about the effect of colors and shapes
  • Explain the advantages and disadvantages of different materials for furniture, walls and floor coverings to customers
  • Inform customers about processing methods and problems with room layout
  • Visualize design concepts with CAD techniques or with sketches, models and collages
  • Management tasks
  • Personnel management
  • Marketing and accounting

 

Anyone who wants to work as a furnishing planner needs an interest in planning work and construction technology as well as an eye for good design and aesthetics, creative and design skills and spatial imagination. Those who also take the professional examination after completing their training will be tested on the development of a furnishing solution, professional knowledge, consulting and sales talks as well as handling situations in marketing, business organization and finance. If you pass the federal professional examination, you will receive a federal certificate in interior design.

The admission requirements for the Federal Diploma of Higher Education in Interior Design are as follows:

  • Completed vocational education and training (VET) as an interior decorator (formerly interior decorator), home textile designer (Federal VET Diploma), floor parquet layer (Federal VET Diploma), carpenter (Federal VET Diploma), draftsman (Federal VET Diploma) (specializing in architecture or interior design), industrial upholsterer (Federal VET Diploma), retail trade specialist (Federal VET Diploma) (furniture or carpet and floor coverings sector), commercial clerk (Federal VET Diploma) or equivalent training

and

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in interior design or furniture sales

or

  • other recognized qualification (at upper-secondary level) with at least 4 years of relevant professional experience
