A Finance Master's degree is a Master's degree awarded by a university or college. Like the activities in this dynamic field, the programs are very popular and places are usually filled quickly. A Master's in Finance can be completed in a variety of fields, including Investment Banking, Accounting and Taxation, Risk Management, Corporate Finance and Wealth Management.

Graduates of a corresponding course are ideally equipped for their day-to-day work and are able to understand the financial services industry and its key drivers and influencing factors. They also know and master the key parameters and decision-making approaches for investment decisions on financial markets and understand the influence of digitalization on the business models of financial service providers. Naturally, graduates of a Finance Master's degree also acquire comprehensive leadership, project and process management skills during their studies, which qualify them for a management role in practice.

Corresponding courses are offered at various colleges and universities. They usually last four to five semesters. A Bachelor's degree is a prerequisite for participation in a Finance Master's program, usually with a focus on economics. If students lack knowledge in areas such as business administration, economics, statistics and accounting, they can often take preliminary courses to acquire the necessary knowledge. In addition, advanced knowledge of written and spoken English is usually a prerequisite for admission and must be proven with a language certificate.

The first semester of the Finance Banking Master's focuses on the basics of modern finance, accounting, quantitative methods and economics. In the 2nd semester there is a transition to case studies. The 3rd semester deals with more advanced topics in finance and offers a confrontation with the profession. Students can customize their course of study through electives.

After the third semester of the Finance and Banking Master's, you can extend your studies to increase your Master's by 30 ECTS credits, for example by validating a module in Data Science or Sustainability for a Master's in Finance with a focus on Data Science or Sustainability or by writing a research or internship thesis. The latter can be completed in a financial institution or in the finance department of a company.
