Continuing education, further training to become a Financial Market Operator / Expert in Financial Market Operations (FMO) is a course that leads to the Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE) and, if passed, awards a federally recognized diploma. In order to be admitted to the AFPE, applicants do not necessarily have to have completed additional continuing education, further training after completing their apprenticeship or high school diploma, but must have worked in the banking and finance sector for at least five years. For a Bachelor's degree this is 3 years, for a university degree 2 years of professional experience.

The Financial Market Operator course lasts two semesters and takes place twice a week in the form of face-to-face classes. An intermediate examination is taken after the first semester and the final examination takes place after the second semester. Those with insufficient skills in mathematics or bookkeeping can acquire these in preliminary courses specially developed for this training.
The following criteria must be fulfilled before taking the examination to become a federally certified financial market operator:
  • KV degree or high school diploma
  • At least three years of professional experience in support

  • University degree (license or equivalent qualification)
  • At least one year of professional experience in support
