What subjects are taught in the CHE training course for aircraft technicians?
During the CHE training program for prospective aircraft technicians, students are taught general, technical and basic subjects. These include subjects such as statics and thermodynamics, mathematics and software tools, information technologies, methodical design, physics and materials, strength of materials, mechanical engineering, design elements, engines, fluid mechanics, aviation materials, aircraft systems, aviation organizations, regulations, aircraft structural design and repairs, presentation techniques, skills management, English, BEL, project management and written communication. In addition, there are internships as presentations, term papers and project work as well as a diploma thesis.
Does the aircraft technician course take place as a full-time course?
The course to become a qualified aircraft technician CHE takes place as part-time training and thus enables you to continue working. There are currently two options to choose from. On the one hand, students can attend evening classes and take part in lessons two evenings a week and on Saturday mornings. Alternatively, lessons can also take place on a full weekday and one evening a week or on a Saturday morning. What degree do aircraft technicians obtain from an HF program?
Persons who have completed training at a higher technical college to become an aircraft technician are awarded the federally recognized title of "Mechanical Engineering Technician HF" (formerly "Graduate Technician HF Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Aircraft Technology").
Note: Since fall 2022, the HF technician courses (formerly "Techniker HF Fachrichtung") have been given a separate framework curriculum and a new title for each specialization. For example, the course "Technician HF Mechanical Engineering" is now called "Mechanical Engineering Technician HF". In addition, the specializations have been abolished.
How long does the continuing education, further training to become an aircraft technician take?
The CHE training to become an aircraft technician comprises a total of six semesters, unless the participants have a technical Federal Vocational Baccalaureate. In this case, the course can be reduced from six to four semesters.
How much does it cost to train as an aircraft technician?
Some cantons support the training of aircraft technicians with CHF 2,500 per semester, so that in such a case the costs for the CHE training course are CHF 2,450 per semester for the start of studies in 2018. If your canton of residence does not support this course, the costs will be CHF 4,950 per semester. Please note that the course fees may vary for the years from 2019 onwards. Is the HF course for aircraft technicians aimed at a specific professional group?
The HF course to become an aircraft technician is aimed at trained professionals such as plastics technologists, physics laboratory technicians, automation technicians, automotive mechatronics technicians, car mechanics, design engineers, mechanical draughtsmen, plant and apparatus engineers, polymechanics, machine mechanics, toolmakers, mold makers, technical model makers, production mechanics and their female counterparts, as well as people with an EFZ in related professions
What do aircraft technicians do?
A CHE aircraft technician is responsible for planning and organizing aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul, checking maintenance work on the landing gear, engine and tail unit, monitoring and defining processes and drafting technical instructions and aircraft maintenance plans. They manage technical departments both professionally and in terms of personnel, train and instruct technical personnel and are entrusted with the design and development of aircraft components and systems.
