Tipps und Entscheidungshilfen für die Ausbildungswahl

Those who study history deal with the past as well as the present, which is why the Master's degree in History focuses on the creation of historical images and the performance and coordination of memories as well as the examination and evaluation of sources and data. Historians no longer just rummage through old collections of writings - they also deal with representations of past events in audiovisual media and in the digital world. Past events in the world are just as much a part of historical studies as the study of visual culture and familiar historical images.

In the History Master's program, students generally decide for themselves which topics they would like to focus on during their studies. The topics are very diverse and range from the cultural history of the Middle Ages to ethnic cleansing in recent centuries, the history of the imagination as visual history and the events of today's globalization. In this way, a perceptual science of the past becomes an extension to current topics with new working techniques. An important part of the course is therefore also academic text writing, whereby attention is paid to both brevity and good readability. In the Master's thesis, students specialize in a topic of their choice.

The History Master's degree program is aimed at graduates with a university degree, i.e. a Bachelor's degree, which includes at least 60 credits in the field of history. After completing the Master's degree, history experts usually work in the fields of education and culture or take on demanding tasks in international companies and organizations or work in public administration. In addition, well-trained historians are increasingly working in the media industry or in public relations. They take on important tasks in researching, compiling and presenting historical material.
