Questions and answers
Do I already need experience in this field for continuing education, further training as a childhood educator CHE (or as it used to be called: child educator CHE)?
Please note: Since 2021, the training and job title has been "dipl. Kindheitspädagogin CHE" / "dipl. Kindheitspädagoge CHE"
Yes, it is necessary that you already have professional experience in this field before studying Childhood Education CHE (formerly: Childhood Education CHE):
- If you have a Federal VET Diploma or a secondary school leaving certificate, you must have worked in the field of childhood education for at least 400 hours prior to the Childhood Education CHE course; this corresponds to approximately six months of full-time work.
- If you have a purely academic upper-secondary level qualification (Matura), you need 800 hours of professional experience in the field of childhood education.
You can find out the other admission requirements from the schools.
Is it true that I have to pass an entrance exam to study at a CHE in Childhood Education (Childhood Education CHE)?
An entrance examination is not required for the CHE child education course, but an aptitude test is. This checks whether the candidates are suitable to cope with the professional requirements and the school education, as well as whether they have sufficient professional and educational motivation. For more detailed information, please refer to the framework curriculum, which you will receive from the schools for training to become a qualified child educator CHE or a qualified childhood educator CHE, as the degree and profession have been called since 2021.
Is the training to become a child educator at a College of Higher Education only theoretical?
A purely theoretical CHE Childhood Education course (as the course has been called since 2021) would not serve the purpose and is therefore not offered. Prospective certified childhood educators CHE acquire their skills and qualifications through both academic and practical training, which takes the form of internships in various fields of activity. In the case of part-time training, the internships are replaced by at least 50 percent work experience in the professional field.
Can I continue to work during my training in CHE Child Education/Childhood Pedagogy?
Yes, you can choose between a full-time and part-time course of study for the CHE Child Education course. In the case of part-time training to become a qualified child educator CHE, you will be able to continue working at least 50% in the professional field. However, the school may require you to complete work shadowing in another area during your training.
Attention:The name of the degree program and the degrees have been changed and are now called Since 2021, the degrees are called "dipl.Childhood educator CHE"/ "dipl.Childhood educator CHE"
