Computer Scientist HF: What are the disadvantages of the course?

After graduating as a computer scientist HF, you will be able to take responsibility for the operation and adaptation of IT systems. In operations, you will be responsible for the reliable operation and further development of IT systems, data security and programs. In addition to initiating and planning IT projects, you will also ensure the optimum availability of equipment.

The most important disadvantages of training to become a qualified computer scientist HF are

  1. Due to the two to three-year duration of the course, studying to become a qualified computer scientist HF requires a great deal of time commitment and a high level of self-discipline and motivation.
  2. Despite cantonal contributions, the entire computer science HF course costs between CHF 15,000 and CHF 25,000, depending on the school. With the full-time option, there is also no income, as no employment is possible.
  3. Many different topics from the fields of business administration, programming, systems and networks, application development, project management, English and IT security management are covered in the course - this broad range of subjects can sometimes be overwhelming. Studying computer science also requires a lot of patience and perseverance.
  4. The degree in Computer Science HF is not well known outside of Switzerland and not all foreign managers working in Switzerland are aware of the HF degree and its significance. IT specialists are more in demand than ever on the job market, especially for practice-oriented IT work.

 

Computer scientists work in all areas of the economy and the service sector, both in industry and in technical and commercial areas such as sales and customer service, as well as in technical areas such as networks and equipment maintenance. They work closely with specialists from other disciplines such as electronics, robotics or production management.
