Tipps und Entscheidungshilfen für die Ausbildungswahl

For managers in the areas of risk, safety, environment, quality and IT, a continuing education course in Integrated Risk Management is an interesting option that opens up various attractive career opportunities. Risk management is becoming increasingly important in Swiss companies. A new provision in the Swiss Code of Obligations also confirms that companies must confirm in their annual report that a risk assessment has been carried out, which must be confirmed by the Executive Board and Board of Directors. This provision requires specialists with sound training and comprehensive knowledge of risk management. The MAS Integrated Risk Management continuing education program teaches future-oriented risk management and combines this with other management systems such as quality, IT, environmental and safety management. The Master's program is divided into five self-contained CAS (Certificate of Advanced Studies). These are each completed over a six-month period while working, whereby the sequence can be freely determined after the first basic course "ZLG Integrated Risk Management". The following topics are dealt with in more detail due to their importance and their interface character:

  • Risk analysis
  • Standards
  • Communication
  • Law

The MAS concludes with a Master's thesis, which also takes six months to complete. The prerequisite for attending this Master's course - also known as MAS IRM - is a successfully completed degree from a university of applied sciences or a university degree. Under certain conditions, highly experienced professionals are also accepted "sur dossier".

Questions and answers

The MAS in Integrated Risk Management is aimed at managers and executives in IT, security, environmental, risk or quality management who already have several years of relevant professional experience.

A university degree (UAS, university, FIT HW, HTL) is recommended, but not mandatory for the MAS in Integrated Risk Management. Professionals with an Advanced Federal Diploma of Higher Education (CHE) or AFPE and several years of professional experience in risk management, quality management, IT management, environmental management, safety management, project management, controlling or consulting can also be admitted after a dossier review. Diploma: Engl.

Each of the five certificate courses lasts six months. In addition, the Master's thesis takes the same amount of time, meaning that the entire Master's course in Integrated Risk Management is spread over three years.

The continuing education master's in Integrated Risk Management consists of a total of five Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) courses on the following topics: Integrated Risk Management; Emergency and Crisis Management; Risk Analysis and Risk Assessment; Risk and Crisis Communication; Risk Management and Law.

Graduates who pass all five required certificate courses and the final thesis in integrated risk management are awarded the Master of Advanced Studies ZFH in Integrated Risk Management with 60 ETCS. Alternatively, a Diploma of Advanced Studies can also be obtained with three certificate courses.

The main task of the MAS Integrated Risk Management is to impart practical knowledge in the understanding of complex risk management and the development of practical solutions. To this end, students acquire extensive know-how in the areas of best practice in risk management, integrated risk management approach, consideration of interfaces in risk management (communication, legal compliance and law, standards, risk analysis, etc.). ISO 31000 as the new best practice standard and risk management guiding standard is specifically addressed and implemented in all CAS. Topics such as Communicate and Consult, Monitor and Review, Controlling and Compliance, Corporate Risk Management and Integrated Management System IMS are covered in detail.
