Cardiotechnician training: Cardiovascular perfusion specialists

There is an interesting postgraduate Master's degree for perfusionists that fits in with their everyday practice and boosts their career: the MAS in Cardiovascular Perfusion FH. The postgraduate course was designed for specialists in nursing, anaesthesia and intensive care in order to provide a recognized university degree in the field of cardiovascular perfusion (CP). It is based on the requirements of the European Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (EBCP) and turns participants into professional and competent specialists when it comes to the rapidly developing and constantly changing technical environment, requirements and patient focus.

The focus of the MAS FH course is on practice in the surgical setting. It strengthens and enhances the skills of perfusionists in various areas of cardiovascular technology, be it organ transplantation, pacemaker therapy, perioperative haemofiltration/haemodialysis, diagnostics, etc.

The course is modular and part-time and includes both attendance days as well as supervised and independent learning. This allows participants to organize their time flexibly, but also requires discipline and a willingness to learn.

The Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) continuing education, further training program for cardiovascular technicians is aimed at specialists in cardiovascular practice and health professionals who would like to pursue further training in cardiovascular perfusion at a University of Applied Sciences.

The MAS in Cardiovascular Technician comprises 15 modules, which are compulsory for the Master of Advanced Studies Kalaidos UAS in Cardiovascular Perfusion degree. These modules are: Technology and Natural Sciences I, Technology and Natural Sciences II, Research Results: Research and Assessment, Medicine I, Medicine II and Perfusion Technology I, Medicine III and Perfusion Technology II, Applied Perfusion Technology I, Medicine IV and Applied Perfusion Technology II, and Health Economics. In addition, two practical modules and three Master's thesis modules must be completed. The Master of Advanced Studies in Cardiovascular Perfusion requires three years of training before you graduate as a cardiotechnician. You will complete 10 modules, each with five attendance days, as well as three MAS final modules and two practical modules. Including self-study, the MAS amounts to 90 ECTS, with 30 ECTS being allocated to practice and 60 ETCS to theory. A student workload of 30 hours is calculated per ECTS, which corresponds to a total of 2700 hours until graduation.
