Tipps und Entscheidungshilfen für die Ausbildungswahl

Nowadays, the term communication system no longer only refers to the network of communication traffic, especially in relation to telecommunications, but also includes many other areas. Especially with regard to technical developments and the changes brought about by digitalization.

These include software development, embedded systems, IT security, data engineering and networks and systems - to name just a few.

What they all have in common is that they enable the exchange of information in the role of or as part of a communication system. From telephone calls to printer servers and data exchange between several parties to the use of the World Wide Web. The flow of information in the Internet age is increasing constantly and at a rapid pace. The advent of social media in particular has once again given a boost to publishing, sharing and commenting on data, i.e. images, music and videos - communication systems are therefore in a constant state of flux so that they can continue to keep pace with the rapid changes.

This requires qualified specialists in the fields of mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering and engineering sciences. They work at the interface between telecommunications and information technology. In the context of big data and cloud computing, such communication systems specialists are in high demand on the job market - and this is likely to increase in the future. They ensure the secure handling, transmission and storage of data - the gold of the digital age.

Are you interested in the field of communication systems? Would you like to play a key role in the development and solution of future challenges arising from the huge volumes of information and data? Then training in the field of communication systems is probably just the thing for you.

Questions and answers

The cost of a communication systems course can vary from provider to provider. As a rule, you can expect to pay between CHF 500 and CHF 900 for a university course.

Some universities of applied sciences offer specialization options in communication systems training. For example, in data engineering, embedded systems, networks and systems, software development or IT security.

It is best to contact the provider of your choice directly and ask what options they offer.

No prior knowledge is usually required for a university degree course at Bachelor's level. However, it is an advantage if you do not have much trouble with subjects such as mathematics or physics.

If you are unsure whether you can cope with the subjects or examinations and follow the lessons, then arrange a consultation with the provider of your choice or attend the relevant information events.

The duration of a course in communication systems varies from provider to provider. For a university course at Bachelor's level, you can generally expect three years (full-time) or four years (part-time, part-time). Please contact the Universities of your choice directly for the exact duration.

In principle, training in communication systems is open to anyone who is interested in the subject. The admission requirements may vary from provider to provider.

For a communication systems degree course at a university of applied sciences, people are usually

  • with a high school diploma and at least 1 year of professional experience in the desired professional field or
  • with basic vocational training (EFZ/apprenticeship), (technical) vocational baccalaureate and correspondingly qualified professional experience or
  • with an HF degree in the desired professional field.

Depending on the situation, it is also possible to be accepted "sur dossier", i.e. through an individual assessment of your career.
