Speech therapy - help for people with speech problems

As a speech therapist, you help all people who have hearing, speech, voice and language difficulties. With your help, people learn to speak without making mistakes and thus gain confidence and approach other people more proactively again. You can help people of all ages. However, children are often sent to speech therapy through school, although adults also go to therapy because nothing was done during their school years. Speech therapists work independently, e.g. in a practice. They usually work closely with a doctor, as the patient's medical history often plays a major role.

The psychosocial situation is also included in the therapy, which supports communication skills. In the case of children, parents are often included in the treatment and many of the children's speech problems can already be resolved through counseling sessions and training with the parents. You can find more information about the profession of speech therapist on the large education portal www.ausbildung-weiterbildung.ch.

Speech therapists work in special schools, in speech therapy practices, in school outpatient clinics, rehabilitation centers and clinics and can therefore be found in the school and non-school sector. They work, for example, in integrated language support in mainstream schools and in educational and therapeutic work at special schools, but also in counseling and supporting young people and adults who have speech disorders, language disorders or communication disorders due to developmental disorders, organ damage, illness, accidents, lack of support and other social influences.
