What activities are carried out in medical foot care?
In addition to nail treatment, medical foot care also includes the removal of clavi (corns), the removal of calluses or excessive calluses (hyperkeratosis treatment), toe correction and pressure relief (orthotic technology), bandaging technology for protective and relief bandages, brace technology for ingrown toenails (orthonyxia), nail prosthetics, lower leg and foot massages, as well as advice on orthopaedic aids and shoes. Specific continuing education, further training is required to work with diabetic feet.
Are the training courses for medical foot care recognized?
To be able to work in medical foot care, you need a Federal VET Diploma as a podiatrist.
What exactly is the difference between medical foot care and pedicures?
In medical foot care, podiatrists take care of sick and healthy feet and treat them professionally. They deal with ingrown nails, corns and toe correction. Pedicures are different. Only healthy feet are treated and the main focus is on the nails and cuticles.
Is there also a basic training course in medical foot care?
If you want to gain a foothold in medical foot care, you can train as a podiatrist with a Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training. Building on this, various continuing education, further training courses are available from professional associations or at Colleges of Higher Education to become a podiatrist CHE.
Is basic training in medical foot care sufficient to open your own practice?
In order to open your own practice for medical foot care, you need a higher education qualification at CHE level as a podiatrist and a cantonal license from the Health / Sanitary Directorate.
