Questions and answers

As an admission requirement for the introductory course for notary clerks, participants must have commercial work experience and be interested in working in a notary's office.

The costs for continuing education, further training to become a notary's assistant (notary's assistant) amount to CHF 3,650 to CHF 4,200 for 2018, depending on the school location. In addition, there is an enrollment fee of CHF 400 to CHF 600. Continuing education, further training to become a legal secretary costs an additional CHF 5,950 to CHF 6,800.

The target group for the introductory course in the notarial profession includes people who have already worked or are working as notary clerks and would like to refresh their knowledge, as well as administrative staff who are looking to switch to the notarial profession, and students and commercial law graduates who would like to enter this profession.

During their training as a notary's assistant, participants acquire extensive knowledge of notarial law, legal theory, tax law and property and land register law. This includes content on cantonal regulations, notarization procedures, supervisory authorities, family law, company law, personal law, the Swiss Civil Code, general contract theory, types of debt collection and time limits, inheritance law with theory of succession, guardianship law, matrimonial property law, child law, commercial register, ownership and possession, land register, easements and land charges, transfer of ownership, land ownership, tax law, appeal procedures, tax tenders, withholding tax, taxation, stamp duty, VAT, general partnerships, SchKG and many other exciting topics.

Graduates of the introductory course for notary's clerks (notary's clerks) receive the VbN certificate from the Association of Bernese Notaries.

Training to become a notary's assistant is a follow-up course that builds on the course to become a legal secretary. This course lasts two semesters, the follow-up course to become a notary's assistant lasts a further five months.
