Learn how to provide proper first aid thanks to an emergency aid course

Of course, we don't always assume that we will find ourselves in an emergency or accident situation. Nevertheless, we should be prepared for all eventualities and know which life-saving measures are appropriate and when. A course that teaches first aid skills and confidence is the emergency aid course. This course is also a prerequisite for registering for the theoretical driving test and covers all the important topics relating to providing assistance in emergency situations in and out of traffic. Due to high demand, emergency assistance courses are offered by numerous schools, clubs and institutions, last around 10 hours in total and cost around CHF 100. Some schools also offer so-called "refresher courses", which are aimed at people who have already completed the actual emergency aid course and would like to refresh their knowledge.

Participants in emergency aid courses learn how to act correctly in traffic accidents or other emergency situations and how to provide appropriate life-saving first aid. This includes, for example, internalizing the international ABCD of lifesaving, treating any respiratory arrest, stopping bleeding in the event of major blood loss, positioning the injured and unconscious and dealing with shock patients for the first time.

The best courses in emergency aid from renowned organizations, associations and schools in your area are listed here on the largest Swiss education portal. On the platform you will find a comprehensive overview of existing first aid training courses in Switzerland. Questions and answers

It is important that you are able to provide immediate assistance in the event of an accident, whether it is a car accident or an industrial accident, a child falling from a tree or a deep cut with a kitchen knife. For this reason, an emergency aid course teaches you how to provide first aid and treatment for various injuries, including
  • The correct behavior in the event of an accident
  • Alerting the rescue service correctly
  • Ventilation and cardiac massage
  • Stopping a bleed
  • Treatment for burns
Yes, in an emergency aid course you will learn how to use a defibrillator or defibrillation device so that you can use this technical device smoothly and in a life-saving manner in an emergency.
An emergency aid course usually takes place over two evenings or at the weekend, so that you can learn everything you need to know about first aid in two stages. You can expect an emergency first aid course to last around 10 hours; special courses that are considered supplementary, such as "Children's emergencies" or company refresher courses, usually have fewer hours.
The majority of emergency aid courses take place at weekends or in the evenings, so that it is also possible for working people to be trained in first aid.
If you have already completed an emergency aid course as part of your vehicle test or on another occasion and now, after a few years, would like to refresh your knowledge of first aid in the event of an accident, there are so-called "refreshers" available, which have a shorter duration and repeat the most important points of first aid once again. However, it should be noted that these courses are not valid for the learner's permit.
