Operations Management - production science and industrial management in one

Do you have a university degree and at least three years of professional experience or at least five years of professional experience and a comparable certificate of further education, a College of Higher Education or Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE) and are you interested in operations management? Then a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) from a University of Applied Sciences could be the ideal further education opportunity for you. This course is aimed at people from industry, trade or service companies who are looking for a management career and want to expand their specialist skills in the area of value-added processes and information processing. Are you interested?

The CAS Operations Management (UAS) lasts one semester with around 16 attendance days. You will be taught content that will help you to scientifically understand the processes of concepts, control and planning within production and to implement them in a beneficial way. You will be introduced to the methods, characteristics and instruments of quality management and lean management, enabling you to design and evaluate integrated management systems. Production control and planning as well as ERP systems, demand forecasting and production order management are also important elements of this continuing education, further training in production management, as are corporate social responsibility and the concept of efficient consumer response (ECR).

Questions and answers

Operations strategy, digitalization and operations, design of operations, improvement concepts, ERP systems / capacity management, as well as business ethics and globalization are the contents of the advanced training in Operations Management. In addition, there are the focal points from the chosen specialization. In "Service Operations", these include quality management, controlling, concepts and digitalization in service operations, end-to-end process management and new organizational concepts. Industry 4.0, the use of simulations in operations, concepts in trading and concepts in industry, on the other hand, are the main topics of the elective module "Operations in Industry and Trade".

Two modules must be attended for the certificate course, firstly the "Fundamentals of Operations Management" and secondly the compulsory elective module "Operations in Industry and Commerce" or "Service Operations".

If interested, this certificate course can be extended together with other CAS courses to the MAS Supply Chain & Operations Management; MAS Digital Transformation; MAS Business Informatics or MAS Business Analysis master's degree courses.

A CAS (Certificate of Advanced Studies) is a further education qualification from a Universities.

  • Duration: Usually 1 semester part-time
  • Title: "Certificate of Advanced Studies in (subject)"
  • Recognition: International comparability via ECTS points
  • ECTS points (European Credit Transfer System = international credit points)

The CAS Operations Management comprises a total of 14 attendance days. It is credited with 12 ECTS. However, in addition to the attendance events (Fridays and Saturdays), sufficient time must also be allowed for self-study.

Admission to the continuing education course in Operations Management is possible with a university degree and three years of professional experience as well as without a university degree. However, people who do not have a university degree must have a qualified continuing education, such as an Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE) or a CHE diploma, and at least five years of professional experience. The Head of Studies decides on admission on an individual basis.

Employees from industrial companies, trading companies or industry-related service companies who design and manage value creation processes are the target group of the certificate course. They work in logistics, supply chain management and operations management, for example. Employees from customer service, process management and order processing in industrial and service companies who are entrusted with the design and management of service processes are also addressed by this continuing education, further training.
