How is the Bachelor's degree program in Optometry structured?
Within six semesters, optometry students are immediately trained in both theory and practice. They learn the basics of optometry, anatomy, pathology and physiology, which also includes lens technology, biostatistics, chemistry, biochemistry, contact lens fitting, binocular vision, low vision, optometric eye examination and pediatric optometry. In addition, there are specialist supplements with three or more modules as well as contextual further training with subjects such as English, business administration, law and ethics, argumentation and rhetoric or writing practice. Practical projects and internships are also included in the Bachelor's degree program in Optometry, as well as other freely selectable modules. Is it possible to study optometry while working?
The Bachelor's degree program in Optometry is exclusively full-time and therefore cannot be completed part-time.
In what professional position can I start my career after studying optometry?
After completing a Bachelor's degree in optometry, graduates have the necessary qualifications to become self-employed as an optometrist and set up their own business. Employment as a team member in an ophthalmologist's practice, an eye clinic or in an industrial company is also possible, as is a leading position in the management of a company or chain, such as McOptic, Fielmann, Visilab, Koch-Optik and others.
Do I need further professional experience with a technical vocational baccalaureate for a bachelor's degree in optometry?
If you have a technical Federal Vocational Baccalaureate, you do not need any further professional experience to be admitted to the Bachelor's degree program in Optometry. The same applies to a completed CHE degree.
What degree will I receive after studying optometry?
The Bachelor's degree program concludes with the "Bachelor of Science (UAS) in Optometry", which is also accredited by the European Council of Optometry and Optic ECOO and therefore also earns graduates the European Diploma.
