Reliable future forecasts thanks to predictive analytics and statistical modeling

Forecasts for the future are fascinating and seem to have something mysterious about them. Predictive analytics (PA) helps managers in their company to foresee complicated relationships in the economic environment and then use their knowledge to make the best possible decisions. Businesses and markets do not always develop at the same time, which is why resource planning and risk assessment require a more accurate method than conventional business intelligence. Predictive analytics comes into play when it comes to finding out why the figures are as they currently are and how they will develop in the future. This includes all methods that identify meaningful dependencies and patterns in data collections and are therefore suitable as a basis for predicting future events and actions. Such analyses can also be based on non-structured data, such as from social networks. Recognizing such patterns in large amounts of data is part of data mining, which in turn is an important part of PA solutions.

The CAS Statistical Modeling FH, for example, is aimed at analysts and those responsible for data processing. This and many other recommended courses can be found on the education portal Ausbildung-Weiterbildung.ch. So if you are looking for a suitable further education opportunity at a renowned university in your region, it is worth visiting this largest Swiss education portal. Order comprehensive information documents online directly from the universities of applied sciences, register for an information event or use free downloads of relevant guides, checklists and much more.

Questions and answers

The continuing education course in Predictive Analytics (CAS Statistical Modeling) consists of four modules: "Information Processing with R" with the contents data wrangling and visualization, reporting tools, designing analysis strategy, creating shiny, "Advanced Regression Modelling" with methods of regression calculation of non-normally distributed target variables, model assessment, development of data-protected generalized regression models, "Analysis of Time to Event Data" model suitability, hazard rate, censoring, inference, failure and waiting time models, "Network Analysis" with social network models and properties, community structures and centrality measures, diffusion in social networks, graphical models and causality, visualization of networks and 2-dim embedding.

The course in Predictive Analytics requires participants to have a university degree, but practitioners with equivalent professional skills may also be admitted by the course management. All prospective students must have completed the CAS in Data Analysis as a prerequisite for admission.

The course in predictive analytics takes place once a week, all day, spread over a period of five months.

Graduates of the continuing education, further training in Predictive Analytics receive the "Certificate of Advanced Studies in Statistical Modeling" with 12 ECTS after passing the course.

Continuing education, further training in predictive analytics is aimed at people such as analysts who are responsible for processing company or public data, as well as people who are entrusted with the evaluation of customer data, the monitoring and regulation of operational or production processes or the delivery of statistical models or reports as a data-protected basis for decision-making.
