Questions and answers

Four modules must be completed for the Federal Diploma of Higher Education in Carpentry Project Management. These are "Training / Leading", "Manufacturing", "Processing orders" and, depending on the desired specialization, "Managing production" or "Managing projects".

A carpentry project manager with a federal certificate is responsible for the supervision and coordination of projects. As managers, they are deputies for the plant management and are in close contact with suppliers, clients and architects. Project managers advise customers and listen to their wishes and are responsible for planning and production preparation. They create calculations and prepare order invoices, look for suppliers and conduct price negotiations with them. They also coordinate the installation organization and are responsible for adherence to deadlines and calculations.

With a federal certificate as a carpentry project manager, you have the opportunity to train for an Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE) to become a master carpenter in furniture and interior design, a master carpenter in construction or a business economist in the trade. A course at a College of Higher Education, for example to become a qualified CHE wood technology technician with a specialization in carpentry, is also conceivable, as is a Bachelor's degree at a University of Applied Sciences, for example in wood technology or interior design, depending on previous education.

In order to be admitted to the Federal Professional Examination, prospective carpentry project managers must firstly have a vocational qualification as a carpenter Federal VET Diploma or carpenter Federal VET Diploma and secondly have worked in the carpentry industry for at least three years after completing their apprenticeship. In addition, all required module qualifications or certificates of equivalence must be submitted by the start of the examination.

After passing the Federal Professional Examination (FPE), graduates of the course receive the qualification "Project Manager Carpentry with Federal Certificate of Competence".

You can expect to spend around three years in continuing education, further training to become a project manager in carpentry with a Federal Diploma of Higher Education.
