Questions and answers

Each rehabilitation technician course is structured a little differently and has a different focus. For example, there are courses that focus primarily on the Pilates technique and thus create an individual rehab therapy concept for each patient. Such courses focus exclusively on the form of therapy and are very practically oriented. Federal Professional Examination training, on the other hand, also places great emphasis on theory and administration, such as documenting patient data or selecting the appropriate wheelchair depending on the clinical picture. Such a course to become a specialist in rehabilitation technology with a Federal Diploma of Higher Education also includes practical training in the last semester in a therapy or assistive technology center.
The course leading to the Federal Diploma of Higher Education for rehabilitation technicians takes three semesters and is conducted on a part-time basis. A course to become a rehabilitation technician with a certificate usually takes a little less time and extends over four weekends within four months as PilatesCare basic training, for example.
Anyone wishing to attend a rehabilitation technician course should already have experience in the rehabilitation sector, for example in nursing, medicine or therapy, and have a basic knowledge of clinical pictures and anatomy. The following regulations apply to attending a course for Federal Professional Examination:
  • Completed apprenticeship with Federal VET Diploma, high school diploma or equivalent qualification
and
  • at least 2 years of professional experience in the rehabilitation sector or
  • At least 6 years of professional experience in the rehabilitation sector without one of the above-mentioned qualifications
and
  • all required module qualifications or certificate of equivalence
and
  • no entry in the central criminal register
The Federal Professional Examination is called a professional examination because it tests whether candidates have the competencies and skills required for the profession. If this is the case, they receive a federal certificate that is recognized throughout Switzerland and certifies that graduates can work as rehabilitation technicians in the future with the competencies specified for this profession. The Federal Professional Examination consists of three parts:
  • Written factual and application knowledge
  • Practical case study
  • Oral expert discussion and case presentation
