On the one hand, I wanted to improve my English and do the Certificate of Advanced English, but on the other, I just wanted to get away from everyday life.
In Bournemouth, a beautiful town on the south coast of England.
In summer 2014 for 3 months. The exam for the CAE took place about 2 weeks before I left.
It was the best thing I could have done after high school! I met lots of new people, most of whom were not Swiss, so I really had to speak English. I'm still friends with some of them today, 2.5 years later, and I've met up with them again a few times. The school (Westbourne Academy) was great and I passed the CAE exam. I felt at home with my host family and was able to enjoy myself. In my opinion, 3 months was just right.
It was my first trip alone and gave me a lot of courage. Since then, I've loved traveling and meeting new people. I now have friends all over the world, so I can always visit someone when I go away. The CAE has helped me in my studies and English is of course the most important language in the world. But you also learn bits and pieces of other people's languages if you're interested ;)
Trust your heart. If something is not right (host family etc.), there is always someone who can help. I would recommend a language study trip to anyone!
