Questions and answers

A language study trip to Italy has no time limit. In most cases, you can plan a language study trip for any number of weeks in between, from one week to one year. The length of your stay depends very much on how long you have, how much money you have available and, last but not least, how motivated you are. After all, how long you are willing to learn depends on your motivation. There are, however, some language courses that have a fixed duration and these are mostly diploma courses and special courses.
Both types of courses are not offered by every language school in Italy and the special courses in particular can have very different focuses. For example, it is possible to book a three-week language course that teaches you Italian for a few hours a day and then teaches you how to cook Italian properly. In other words, an Italian language and cooking course. Instead of cooking, some schools also offer dance courses, such as tango or salsa, while others offer wine tastings or gastronomic excursions. All in Italian, of course. In this way, you can enjoy Italy during your language study trip and learn Italian at the same time.
If you are interested in improving your English or French language skills through language travel to Canada, you should start planning early. It makes sense to find out about possible language schools six months before the planned date and have comprehensive documentation sent to you. Once you have decided on a language school, a type of course and accommodation, you have already taken a big step and can then go ahead with the booking. Remember, the earlier you book, the more likely you are to find the ideal accommodation and language course for you at the time you want, as these are often booked up quickly, especially in the high season. Flights are also often much cheaper a few months in advance, so you will have more money available for excursions and activities in Canada. If you are planning to acquire a language diploma and prepare for it in a diploma course at a language school in Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver, you are advised to get in touch with the relevant schools as soon as possible and ask about the examination dates, which take place at regular intervals at fixed times and which you must adhere to in this case. Please also note that you will need a visa if you wish to stay or work in Canada for more than 6 months. This usually takes several months to process, so you will not be able to take such a trip at short notice.
During your language study trip in Italy, you can usually stay with host families where you are either fully catered for or where you stay overnight but prepare your own meals. Intermediate solutions are also often possible and are more or less suitable depending on the age of the language students. Another type of accommodation is a hall of residence, which can often be found on campus or in the immediate vicinity of the school. Both options are offered for youth language trips as well as for adult language trips to Italy. Accommodation in hotels, studios, shared flats or vacation apartments is usually exclusively for people over the age of 18. When choosing your accommodation, always pay attention to how far it is from the Italian school and the sights of the city and what services are included. For youth trips, all meals are usually organized and included in the price, whereas this is the exception for adult language trips. For longer stays, you should also find out whether you have the option of doing laundry and using a vacuum cleaner, for example, or whether room cleaning is organized and included in the price.
More and more language schools in Italy are offering their students the opportunity to prepare for internationally recognized Italian language exams in specially developed diploma courses. You often attend a conventional language course at your level for a few hours a day, followed by a special preparation course for a few hours in the afternoon, or you spend your lessons exclusively in diploma groups. Which of these options is offered during your language study trip in Italy depends on the individual school.

The language diplomas for which you can prepare in these diploma courses are also not the same at all Italian language schools. For example, there are language schools that only offer Italian courses for the CELI and CIC diplomas, while others only offer courses for theAccademia Italiana di Lingua, Firenze (AIL), as theDiploma Elementare di Lingua Italiana (DELI), Diploma Intermedio di Lingua Italiana (DILI), Diploma Avanzato di Lingua Italiana (DALI). Examinations for professional Italian such as Diploma Intermedio di Lingua Italiana Commerciale (DILC) and Diploma Avanzato di Lingua Italiana Commerciale (DALC) can also be taken at some language schools, but by no means at all.

If you would like to prepare for a specific language exam during your language study trip to Italy, please contact some of the language school providers you are interested in to find out which language schools they offer. A language study trip to Italy is not only a great opportunity for teenagers and young adults to quickly improve their existing knowledge of Italian or acquire basic language skills. More and more people who are in the middle of their careers or have already moved on are also opting for this type of language training, which offers the advantage of combining learning Italian with a vacation. In recent years in particular, more and more programmes have been developed that specialize in individual target groups, such as 50+ or senior citizens. These offers aim to bring language students together with people of the same age who often have more similar interests than people with a large age difference. In an Italian course with people of the same age, you learn the content that interests you at a pace that suits you and spend your free time during the language trip to Italy with selected and organized cultural, historical and culinary attractions in the surrounding area. You can easily find language schools that offer courses for the 50+ and older target group via the individual providers of language travel programs in Italy, which you can contact using our contact form.
There are many beautiful cities in Italy. The major cities such as Rome, Milan and Florence are particularly popular. But remember, you don't want to go to Italy just to go on vacation. You want to learn Italian in a language school. You should therefore always check whether the courses on offer in the respective cities meet your requirements. Only then can this language study trip to Italy actually fulfill its purpose. You should therefore consider the following points when making your choice:
  • Does the training program meet my needs?
  • What language schools are there in this city?
  • What about cultural offerings?
  • Is the price I pay, especially in big cities, reasonable?
  • How wide is the range of sports and leisure activities on offer?
  • Are there enough places to go out?
  • How quickly can I get to a larger city?
  • What shopping facilities are available locally?
  • What are the transport connections like?

If you have booked accommodation with a host family for a language study trip to Italy, you will usually receive half board, which means breakfast and dinner. In most cases, you will have to take care of lunch yourself, with the exception of student or youth language trips, where full board is usually standard. For those who do not choose a host family but opt for other accommodation, such as a room in a student residence, or book another option such as self-catering within the host family, this also means that you will have to prepare or order all meals yourself and pay for them yourself. How expensive this will be in detail depends of course on the region in which you are planning your language study trip, what you eat, how often and how much, so it is not possible to make a general statement about this.
In addition to meals, there are also costs for travel to and from the destination, which can vary depending on the destination and means of transportation. Bear in mind that you can often get cheaper flights if you book early. Registration fees, accommodation reservation fees, surcharges for the high season or the turn of the year, exam fees, transportation within the city, airport transfers and excursions are also often payable separately, as is travel cancellation insurance, which is highly recommended. In addition, you should of course have enough pocket money with you to meet your personal needs and ensure that you don't have to do without anything during your language study trip to Italy and, if you don't already have it, take out international health insurance.
It is worth comparing various offers and studying them carefully. Here you will find tips and experiencesabout language courses in Italy, as well as a direct link to various providers.
