Language study trip Dublin: Learn English with Irish hospitality

During an English language study trip to Dublin, you will be right in the middle of the vibrant life of Ireland's multifaceted and fascinating capital city. You will not only use English in the language school, but also in the supermarket, on the city buses and of course in the numerous pubs, where you can order your Guinness in English and better understand what moves the locals while listening to live music. You will improve your English skills with ease and be motivated to learn as you make progress in everyday life.

But don't they speak Gaelic in Ireland? - The Republic of Ireland has two official languages: English and Irish (the Celtic Irish Gaelic). But even though Irish is officially promoted and many official documents are written in Irish, the mother tongue of the majority of the Irish population is English. During a language study trip to Ireland, you will therefore be immersed in the English language in everyday life and, in addition to many phrases and words, you may also quickly adopt the typical pronunciation of the R sound, which distinguishes Irish English (as well as American English) from the pronunciation in England.

Dublin has several high-quality language schools that attract numerous language travel participants every year. The language schools offer various course models for different age groups, mainly:

  • Standard courses (around 20 lessons per week)
  • Intensive courses (around 25-30 lessons per week)
  • Exam preparation courses (for internationally recognized diplomas)
  • Business English courses
  • Individual lessons
  • Long-term language courses

Language travel agencies can help you plan your language study trip to Dublin. The providers on our website are local agencies who have known their partner schools in Dublin for a long time and regularly review their offers. They can therefore give you the best individual advice on courses, accommodation in a hall of residence, host family or individual accommodation, as well as on excursions and leisure activities.

A language study trip to Dublin is suitable for all current and future Ireland fans who want to improve their English language skills in the language school, on excursions on the Emerald Isle, with an Irish host family, in Dublin pubs etc. and who are looking forward to making new international contacts.

Questions and answers

Before you decide on a provider for language travel to Dublin, it is important that you inform yourself thoroughly and make some clarifications. Therefore, always find out the following about some interesting language schools:
  • Experience and reputation of the language school
  • Qualifications of the teachers
  • Mother tongue of the teachers
  • Location of the language school
  • Distance to the main sights, the old town, city center or the beach
  • Infrastructure and equipment of the language school
  • Course models
  • Minimum age
  • Duration and number of lessons
  • Course objectives
  • Course materials
  • Class sizes
  • Accommodation
  • Distance school-accommodation
  • Leisure activities
  • Organized leisure activities at the school
  • Transfer
  • Transportation and connections
  • Examinations, dates and costs
You can also find a comprehensive list and detailed explanation of all the important selection criteria for a language school in our guide "How to choose the right education provider" (see navigation point "Education help" above). This will certainly make it easier for you to find the school that offers you the best services for your language study trip to Ireland.
At almost all language schools where you can attend English courses, you will be taught by highly qualified teachers who are authorized to teach English as a foreign language. They often hold the CELTA, the Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, an internationally recognized diploma from Cambridge University. In addition, certificates such as the Diploma in English Language Teaching (DELTA) or The Trinity College London Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) are also proof of quality for English teachers in language schools in Dublin. Please always ask the individual providers of language travel to Dublin what qualifications the language teachers have and whether they are native speakers of English. The "ALTO", "EAQUALS", "IALC" and other seals of approval also testify to the high standards of the schools and teachers.
Youth language trips in particular have a tightly organized leisure programme that guarantees daily variety and offers young people the opportunity to try out new things and gain experience. These could be painting courses or surfing lessons, football, volleyball or badminton. Quiz and disco evenings are also on the program, as are regular excursions, for example to Kilkenny or the Virginia Lakes, the National Gallery or the National History Museum.

Language travel to Dublin for adults usually offers fewer planned and supervised leisure activities, but almost all language schools offer excursions to places such as Wicklow, Belfast or Cork, which anyone interested can take part in. Evening events are also very popular, where students meet up in a nearby pub, have a DVD evening or attend music events. However, weekend excursions are not always included in the price, so please enquire about this in advance.

Demand for English language courses is particularly high in the summer months during the vacation season, so you should register early with a language school for language travel to Dublin in order to get a place on the desired date. However, it is also advisable to register at least 1 to 2 months before the start of the language course during the rest of the year. As you do not need a visa to enter Ireland as a Swiss national or resident of another European country if you are entering as a tourist, the processing time of just over a month that would otherwise be required is eliminated. However, if you wish to attend an English course in Dublin for longer than three months, you will need to apply for a visa. For more information, please contact the language school or language travel provider where you are booking your language course.
Accommodation for language travel to Dublin should always be chosen to suit your personal needs. If you are a person who likes to be around lots of people and enjoys being in regular contact with as many different cultures as possible, different types of accommodation are suitable than for people who like to withdraw after a busy day of learning. For this reason, most language schools offer different types of accommodation for you to choose from. Staying with a host family is certainly the best way to improve your language skills outside of the language course and to hear and speak English continuously. The social aspect also plays a role, as you participate in the life of your host family as a "temporary family member" and experience everyday situations, which significantly increases your learning success.

If you are not willing to integrate into a family with fixed rules, you can also choose other accommodation for language travel to Dublin, such as a shared apartment, where you can live in a single or double room. You share a kitchen, bathroom and possibly a living room with your flatmates, who can come from any country in the world, and cater for yourself. Some language schools also offer student residences and rooms in the school residence, where you have a room and sometimes even your own bathroom (school residence). They have common rooms where you can spend time, but rarely a kitchen. You will therefore have to eat in the school canteen, unless you find a cafeteria where you can have breakfast, as is common in some school residences. For people who want to enjoy their privacy, there are apartments, studios and hotels that can be booked in every price category for a language study trip to Dublin.
