Learn Italian on a language course in Italy

Floating through Venice on a gondola or sipping a latte macchiato in front of the Colosseum in Rome, enjoying a full-bodied red wine in Piedmont or strolling through the bustling shopping streets of Milan are just some of the ways you can fill your language study trip in Italy. Italy is diverse and worth seeing, stretching from the Dolomites to the Mediterranean, a country so full of life, passion and dolce vita that it's hard to find anywhere else.

Language trips are an excellent way to learn a language, whether you are a beginner or an advanced learner. After all, an Italian language course will give you all the knowledge you need in your daily dealings with your fellow Italians and you can apply this directly on the spot. Whether you're ordering pasta in a restaurant or asking for directions to the next bus stop, you'll constantly use the knowledge you've acquired on your language course in Italy and achieve small successes right from the start. These will motivate you to keep going and ensure that your language study trip is unforgettable.

But where exactly do you want to spend your vacation? Do you already know which region of Italy you want to visit or are you not sure yet? Basically, there are many cities that are suitable for language travel to Italy. Ultimately, you decide which city attracts you the most and meets your expectations. After all, a language study trip should not only improve your language skills, but also broaden your horizons and gladden your heart.

Once you have decided on a city, it is not too difficult to choose a suitable language school. Provided, of course, that you know a little about what you actually want. First of all, you should consider what characteristics the Italian course you want for your language vacation should have. Is it a youth trip, an adult education trip, for people 40+ or 50+ or should it even be a course to improve your Italian at business level?

The minimum age for many language courses is 16, but this does not mean that there are no other language travel offers in Italy. If you are younger than 16 or are looking for a suitable language program for your son or daughter, you should definitely take a look at youth travel. In such Italian courses, the lessons are tailored to the needs of schoolchildren, both in terms of content and time, so that they can combine language learning with a vacation during their school vacations. In addition, minors legally require a different type of supervision and organization than is the case with adults. It is therefore better to choose an age-appropriate language course with an appropriate leisure program in order to get the most out of this trip.

Many language courses during a language study trip to Italy are also aimed specifically at a limited target group. This is the case, for example, with business Italian or language courses for people over 40 or over 50, whose interests are very different in each case and are taken seriously accordingly. The various courses on offer for the individual target groups are usually divided into different course models that offer different focuses and course durations. In addition to standard courses, intensive courses and diploma courses, special courses that not only teach you the language but also offer you extracurricular activities are becoming increasingly popular for language travel to Italy. For example, in many places you can book courses such as Italian and cooking, Italian and wine, Italian and culture or Italian and golf.

Would you like to learn Italian or improve your Italian language skills? Are you tired of monotonous classrooms and lessons in the evening after work? Then it's worth checking out the numerous interesting offers for language courses in Italy on Ausbildung-Weiterbildung.ch. Whether for just a few weeks or even several months - you certainly won't regret a language study trip to Italy, because when you return home you will have a much better command of the language than after a part-time course in German-speaking Switzerland. Experience an unforgettable adventure learning Italian and travel to la bella Italia!

Questions and answers

You can find out in detail which criteria you should consider in order to find exactly the right language school for your language travel to Italy or your Italian language course here in Switzerland in the guide "How to choose the right education provider" (see navigation point "Education help" above). You may also be interested in the guide to language courses, where you can see in detail the differences between the individual types of course, such as standard courses, intensive courses and others. Of course, the individual schools also provide you with extensive information about the school and the surrounding area, so that you have enough comparative material for your language travel to Italy. In addition to the prices and services, always pay attention to the location of the school, the qualifications of the teachers and the leisure activities and accommodation on site during your language study trip in Italy.
Language schools in Italy usually have different language courses in their program, from which you can choose the one that suits you best. These are usually standard courses and intensive courses. The main difference between the two courses for language travel to Italy is the number of lessons per week, which can vary by up to ten lessons per week. Standard courses often have around 20 lessons per week, i.e. four lessons per day, which usually take place in the morning. With intensive courses, you also have one or two lessons in the afternoon, so you have considerably less time to pursue a wide variety of leisure activities. You know best how much you want to and can learn. If you only have a small budget available, you should bear in mind that intensive language courses are somewhat more expensive than standard language courses. Diploma courses are also often offered to prepare you for various Italian language diplomas. So if you want to acquire a recognized language diploma, an Italian course of this kind is highly recommended.
With language courses, you can usually choose between different group sizes, between groups, small or mini groups and individual lessons. The larger the group, the cheaper a language course usually is, but you should bear in mind that the pace of learning is correspondingly slower. One-to-one lessons or a combination of private lessons and a group course are definitely the most effective, which has the advantage that, unlike one-to-one lessons alone, you have regular contact with other language students and can exchange ideas. When choosing the right language course for your language travel to Italy, you should also bear in mind that not all language courses are suitable for every language level. Business courses in particular are aimed at people who already have a basic knowledge of Italian, at least level B1.
The leisure program is particularly well organized for youth language trips to Italy. Every afternoon after the language course, the young people have the opportunity to choose between various activities, such as drawing, volleyball, swimming, etc. On some evenings during the week there are different events, such as discos or quizzes, and at the weekend there are excursions to places of interest, the beach or beach bar towns. For language trips to Italy, which are mainly aimed at adults, the course programme is rarely organized as extensively, but offers a wide range of freely selectable activities, especially at larger schools. Many leisure activities and weekend excursions can be booked for all participants, but usually have to be paid for separately, although sports activities in particular are part of the program at most language schools and are included in the cost. However, each language school provides prospective students with an overview of the leisure options and organized activities before they book so that they can find out in advance.
Depending on the school, there are different locations throughout Italy. This is just a small list of all the cities that are possible for language courses in Italy. It's best to find out directly from the relevant schools about the places in Italy where you can find qualified language schools for an Italian language course. For example, for your language study trip to Italy you can go to:
  • Milan
  • Venice
  • Rome
  • Florence
  • Verona
  • Siena
  • Ravenna
  • Salerno
  • Viareggio
  • Bagno di Romagna
  • San Remo
  • Bologna
  • Tropea
  • Posada (Sardinia)
  • Taormina (Sicily)
  • Syracuse (Sicily)
Language schools can offer very different types of accommodation for language travel to Italy under the heading "Host family accommodation". With this type of accommodation, you often have your own room and share the bathroom, kitchen and common rooms with your host family. A private bathroom is not the rule, but can be booked with some language schools if you are interested and is often referred to as "Executive". With both options, you will be provided with meals, breakfast and dinner, which you will eat together with the family. However, your host family does not necessarily have to consist of the typical mother-father-child constellation; there are often single mothers or fathers with children, retired couples or intergenerational households with whom you will stay. When registering, however, you can specify your wishes for a host family and the school will make sure that your ideas are implemented by your temporary family, if at all possible, also with regard to special dietary requirements (diet, diabetics, allergy sufferers, vegetarians, etc.).
Some language schools in Italy also give you the option of choosing host families with whom more than one language student lives and with whom you may even share a room. Sometimes you can also choose the option of only using the family's accommodation and infrastructure, but providing for yourself. Please contact the individual language travel providers directly to find out which options are available within the host family and which services they include in detail.
