Questions and answers
Can I continue to work during my continuing education, further training as a tourism specialist?
If you study full-time, it is not possible for you to continue working, as the time commitment would be too high. However, some schools also allow you to study part-time to become a tourism specialist, so that you can continue to work within a limited framework. However, you can also opt for a different course option where, provided you choose a College of Higher Education that is located in the tourism region, you only attend school in the off-season and work in tourism during the peak season.
Do I have to have already worked after my apprenticeship to train as a tourism specialist?
In order to be able to start your studies at the CHE to become a tourism specialist, it is essential that you have at least one year of professional experience after completing your apprenticeship or another upper-secondary level qualification. Language stays, internships or other productive employment within this one year are also possible.
Can I do the continuing education, further training to become a tourism specialist as a full-time student?
Yes, it is possible for you to complete the CHE Tourism Specialist course as a full-time student. In this case, however, this includes a one-year internship during the course to provide you with practical skills as well as theoretical knowledge.
Do I need to have good foreign language skills in several languages to study to become a tourism specialist?
For most Colleges of Higher Education, it is important that you have very good language skills in at least one foreign language. These foreign languages should be English, French, Spanish, Italian or, for foreign speakers, German. In the course of their training, tourism specialists also acquire good language skills in another language, so that they graduate with language diplomas in two foreign languages.
