CAS Vegetation Analysis and Field Botany: Planning and implementation of vegetation-related projects

If you would like to work intensively with vegetation analysis and field botany in the future, the CAS certificate course of the same name is probably ideal for you. Do you have a university degree or comparable training? Do you have sound ecological and botanical knowledge of habitats and species as well as success monitoring and sample planning? If so, then this extra-occupational training course lasting around 18 months could indeed be ideal for you.

The course is divided into three modules, the last of which is the CAS final thesis, which consists of a scientific paper on a chosen field of field botany or vegetation analysis and a more in-depth study of the final topic. In modules one and two, the project planning, the sampling design, is dealt with in great detail. This is done with the help of case studies, such as species conservation projects or monitoring renaturation. The VEGEDAZ program is also an important part of the course, as it is used to enter, manage, evaluate and analyze all collected vegetation data. The correct use of GPS and aerial images in monitoring projects, experimental planning and vegetation mapping is the last part of the vegetation analysis module.

The identification of sour and sweet grasses and other plants in their flowering and vegetative state, the correct use of plants in engineering biology and renaturation as well as the demarcation and evaluation of vegetation units are all topics covered in the field botany module. All of this content aims to provide participants with all the practical knowledge they need to independently plan and carry out a vegetation-related project, including extensive knowledge of methods, vegetation and flora.

Are you interested in this CAS certificate course in field botany and vegetation analysis? Would you like further information? Then simply and conveniently contact the relevant universities using the form and receive all the important information without obligation.

Questions and answers

Participants in the CAS Vegetation Analysis and Field Botany are expected to have basic ecological and botanical knowledge of species and habitats.

The CAS certificate course consists of the modules "Field Botany", "Vegetation Analysis" and "CAS Thesis". The first two modules can also be attended independently of the certificate course as continuing education, further training, provided there are still places available.

Participants in the CAS Vegetation Analysis and Field Botany gain extensive knowledge and know-how in project planning, mapping and addressing vegetation units in the field, the use of aerial photographs and GPS for vegetation mapping, in the management and evaluation of vegetation data, as well as in the independent implementation of monitoring projects, vegetation mapping and species protection programs.

The CAS Vegetation Analysis and Field Botany certificate course is not part of a more comprehensive Master of Advanced Studies MAS program, but is offered independently of such a program.

The CAS Vegetation Analysis and Field Botany certificate course lasts between one and one and a half years, with 21 days of attendance.

A CAS (Certificate of Advanced Studies) is a further education qualification from a Universities.

  • Duration: Usually 1 semester part-time
  • Title: "Certificate of Advanced Studies in (subject)"
  • Recognition: International comparability via ECTS points
  • ECTS points (European Credit Transfer System = international credit points)
