The Gymnasium provides a broad general education in languages and mathematics as well as in the natural sciences and humanities. The general education is taught in ten basic subjects. In German-speaking Switzerland, these are

The grammar school with a focus on "Business and Law" supplements the basic subjects with thecombined major subject "Business and Law"and thus optimally prepares students for later fields of study such as business administration or law.
Supplementary subjects are, for example, physics, philosophy, computer science or sport. Some grammar schools with a focus on "Economics and Law" specify the supplementary subject (e.g. geography), while others offer a free choice within the scope of their curriculum.
