Tipps und Entscheidungshilfen für die Ausbildungswahl

A relaxation technique that is not yet very well known worldwide - the Bowen technique or Bowen therapy - was invented in the 1950s by the Australian of the same name. This connective tissue relaxation technique is based on the assumption that tissue disorders are responsible when the body's functions are disturbed. As a result, the therapy method is intended to awaken the body's own resources and lead to self-regulation. Numerous medical specialists and therapists around the world are enthusiastic about this method.

A therapy session consists of a sequence of light but precise grips lasting a few seconds on specific parts of the body such as muscles, tendons and ligaments. The body parts are touched lightly and then moved. In between, pauses are taken to allow the body to process the impulses and regulate itself. It often only takes a few movements to achieve good results. However, the best results in gentle Bowen therapy are achieved by combining different treatment series. It is recommended that the treatment is carried out once a week for 15 to 45 minutes.

Would you like to learn how to use Bowen Therapy and would you like to take a training course to learn the method? The Bowen Technique courses do not require any prior therapeutic or medical knowledge, however some schools expect students to complete the Medical Foundations course alongside or prior to training to ensure a basic understanding of anatomy and health science.

Questions and answers

The Bowen technique is a treatment therapy based on naturopathy and osteopathy. It involves touching and moving the fasciae, tendons and joints of the body so that the resulting impulses stimulate the body's self-regulation. Bowen therapy helps with tension and supports the nervous system in structural and functional reorientation.

Graduates must meet the following requirements at the start of training in the Bowen Technique:

  • Minimum age of 20 years
  • Completion of basic education (upper-secondary level)
  • Passed admission interview
  • Interest in topics related to health and practical work with people
  • Completed basic medical training course or parallel start
  • Criminal record extract

The Bowtech training meets the requirements of the ASCA, EMR and NVS registration bodies, provided that the basic medical training has been completed. This means that Bowen therapies can be billed via supplementary insurance.

Bowtech training is regulated by the Bowen Academy Europe and consists of 13 modules with intermediate examinations. In addition, graduates are expected to complete the basic medical course. In Switzerland, the training lasts a total of at least 5 semesters on a part-time basis.
