IPv6 course: Data transmission according to the Internet Protocol Version 6 standard

IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) is a procedure standardized by the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) for the transmission of data in packet-switched computer networks such as the Internet. Together with 500 other network protocols of the TCP/IP family, IPv6 forms the basis for communication on the Internet. Control information from various network protocols is interleaved in the packets according to a layer model. It is based on the network layer (layer 3) of the OSI layer model. As part of the network layer within the Internet protocol family, the iPv6 protocol establishes a 128-bit addressing of the network elements involved that is valid across subnetworks. It also regulates routing - the process of packet forwarding between subnets, which in turn are operated by various lower-layer protocols. Compared to the previous IPv4 version, this Internet standard version offers more possible IPv6 addresses for addressing network elements, the unique addressing of all end devices in a network as well as more stable and more extensive public addressing.

An IPv6 training course explains the new features compared to IPv4, migration strategies, how the protocol works and the security aspects. IPv6 training can cover the following topics:

  • Introduction, new features in Internet Protocol Version 6
  • Headers, extension headers and the structure of IPV6 addresses
  • IPv6 communication and weaknesses
  • Stateless and stateful autoconfiguration
  • Planning the secure migration from IPv4 to IPv6
  • Internet Protocol Version 6 in end devices, routers and firewalls
  • Tunneling via IPv4
  • Interworking with IPv4 (NAT64 and DNS64)
  • Routing and network services (DNS, DHCP, RADIUS and SNMP)
  • Applications: WWW, FTP and e-mail
  • Internet access and ISP networks
  • Enterprise networks
  • Internet Protocol Version 6 in the mobile world
  • Security: New points of attack, protection, firewall and VPN

The courses are aimed at planners, administrators and security officers involved in the introduction of IPv6. Detailed knowledge of IPv4 is often required. Graduates will be able to carry out a structured and secure migration to Internet Protocol version 6.

Would you like to help shape IT in the area of standardized data transmission in the future and be familiar with addressing, routing, auxiliary protocols, design, interworking and security? Questions and answers

The advantages of IPv6 lie in the number of IPv6 addresses and the improvement of other accessibility features. This is because with IPv6 the end-to-end principle has been consistently developed further. This means that an interface can have several IPv6 addresses or even special addresses for several interfaces. In addition to the scarcity of addresses, IPv6 vs IPv4 also makes configuration and operation easier. Setting up and operating a local network is made easier by the fact that the stateless IPv6 configuration and connection-local addresses are available immediately after the computer is started. With an Ipv6 test, you can see whether the Internet connection is equipped with the technology and what the Ipv6 address is.

IPv6 is responsible for switching data packets through a packet-switching network, addressing network nodes and stations and forwarding data packets between subnets. Due to these tasks, IPv6 is assigned to the third layer of the OSI layer model. Due to the core task of data packet switching (routing), Ipv6 is part of the TCP/IP protocol family.

"IPv6 simply explained" means Internet Protocol Version 6. According to the IPv6 explanation, this Internet protocol is a standardized method for transmitting data in packet-switched computer networks. The IPv6 Wiki shows its origin in 1998 by the Internet Engineering Task Force.

IPv6 support is available for all reasonably up-to-date network devices. If a router does not support IPv6 or 6to4 tunnels, it is not possible to "activate IPv6". However, you can point this out to your provider and have a good chance of getting an up-to-date router with IPv6 support.

The IPv6 address is a network address that logically addresses a host uniquely within a network. An IPv6 host has several addresses with different scopes of validity. A connection-local IPv6 address is only valid in the local network and is not routed, whereas global addresses are valid beyond the local network on the Internet. The length of an IPv6 address is 128 bits, which allows an unimaginable number of addresses and could be used to cover every square millimeter of the earth.
