Pedicure that is wellness and care at the same time

Would you like to work in a nail salon and offer pedicures or foot care? There are various forms of foot care, such as the popular French pedicure and also the wellness variant including massage and special foot care. Do you already have a beauty salon or would you like to open one and still lack the knowledge of foot care? Do you perhaps already have experience in nail care, but only for fingernails, and would you like to gain knowledge in foot care?

You can find continuing education, further training in pedicure at www.Ausbildung-Weiterbildung.ch. Here you can also learn how to give a foot massage and really pamper your customers. You can also give your customers expert advice on problem feet. You can find out more directly from the individual schools at www.Ausbildung-Weiterbildung.ch.

Questions and answers

Training in the field of pedicure is not usually aimed at any particular professional group and therefore has no or only very limited participation requirements. However, some schools require participants to be at least 18 years old. Anyone wishing to train in the fields of cosmetic pedicure, nail design, permanent French pedicure, wellness pedicure or another specialty should above all enjoy working with people, be able to work with concentration and attention to detail, be hygienic and careful, have no fear of contact, even with severely deformed or unkempt feet and nails, be sociable and friendly, be able to work independently, be creative and customer-oriented.

The learning objectives in a pedicure course are as follows:

  • organize their workplace and work independently
  • Assessing findings as part of foot care and providing simple advice on foot problems
  • have expertise in treatment and quality assurance
  • Demonstrate methodological competence in manual and instrumental work techniques as well as in process-oriented interpretation and action
  • Demonstrate self-competence in independent, client-oriented action as well as discretion and a manner appropriate to the situation

In a foot care training course, you learn the following treatment methods:

  • Footbath
  • Foot scrub
  • Simple foot massage
  • Shorten nails
  • Clean the nail bed
  • Grinding toenails
  • Nail corner care
  • Nail fungus treatment
  • Foot care for deformed toes

The right way to deal with corns and plantar warts is also discussed in the pedicure course.

The duration of a pedicure course can vary from a few days to several months, depending on the school, previous training and course chosen. Basic training in cosmetic pedicure takes four days spread over two consecutive weekends at one school and around 120 hours at another, which can be divided up according to your individual requirements. Continuing education, further training in a particular specialty, such as B/S brace technique or permanent French pedicure, often only takes a few hours and usually takes place on a Saturday, so that you can attend it alongside your work.

Pedicure training teaches the following skills:

  • Practical work on the feet
  • Care of the nails and skin on the foot
  • Correct nail shortening and shaping
  • Removing the hard skin
  • Care of pressure points
  • Handling and working with foot care equipment
After extensive training in pedicure, you will be able to work independently, both as an employee and as a freelancer. This means that you can also open your own podiatry practice if you feel confident that you can handle this task. You should bear in mind that in addition to comprehensive training, experience is also important in order to be able to offer professional cosmetic foot care. If possible, you should therefore first work in a pedicure studio and gain the necessary experience before starting your own business.
The content of a pedicure seminar varies depending on the provider. The following is a list of some of the key points that you will usually learn during such training:
  • Anatomy of the foot
  • Cutting, filing and treating toenails
  • Callus removal
  • Nail fold cleaning
  • Introduction to foot massage
  • Nail diseases
  • Lacquering techniques
  • Care
  • Hygiene
  • Product and instrument knowledge

Cosmetic foot care involves care and decorative measures on the healthy foot by a nail technician. Medical foot care involves preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative treatment on healthy feet that are at risk of damage. Only a medical chiropodist (podiatrist) with knowledge of medical foot care can take measures on an already damaged foot.
