Language travel in the fascinating city of London

English has become one of the most important languages in the Swiss economic and business world. In most international companies, a good command of English is expected of employees and is often a decisive factor in their selection. So if you want to improve your job prospects, there is often no way around learning English. However, some people find this very difficult as the courses are only offered on an hourly basis and there is no daily training in everyday life. We therefore recommend a language study trip to an English-speaking country. Whether in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, Scotland or England - a language study trip is an adventure and language acquisition in one.

Around 7.6 million people live in London. But anyone who has ever been to London knows that despite this mass of people from different cultural backgrounds, the city has managed to retain its charm and uniqueness to this day. Language travel to London offers the perfect opportunity to get to know the city of Big Ben, the Queen, the pubs and Tower Bridge and to marvel at its diversity.

There are a large number of established and renowned language schools in London. They all offer different types of courses, which differ from one another to a greater or lesser extent. At every school in the city you will find so-called standard courses, which usually comprise around 20 lessons per week. Each lesson lasts around 45 to 60 minutes, which means that you learn English for up to four hours a day from Monday to Friday. This is because weekends are always free of lessons during language travel London and are at your disposal.

However, this does not apply to youth trips, where course participants naturally have no lessons at the weekend, but their free time outside the school grounds is usually planned by the family they live with during this time or by the language school itself. Unsupervised excursions into London's nightlife are just as forbidden for minors there as they are here, although this is handled much more strictly. However, this does not mean that all under-18s will not have fun and experience anything, just not on their own, which should certainly reassure all parents.

After a language study trip to London, you will usually receive a certificate from the language school in question. And this applies regardless of whether you were there for one week or six months. However, as this does not necessarily say anything about your English language skills after this stay, the exams mentioned above are being taken more and more frequently. These exams officially certify your language qualifications and are valid worldwide.

Language diplomas are often required as a prerequisite for jobs abroad or even a new or higher position here in Switzerland. As people are increasingly dealing with foreign corporate clients or business partners in their jobs, many companies require their employees to have a good command of English and to provide proof of this in the form of a certificate or diploma. However, many universities in English-speaking countries also require foreign students to provide proof of their language skills so that they are able to follow the lectures at all.

On Ausbildung-Weiterbildung.ch you will find numerous interesting providers of language travel programs in London with top offers at a glance. Travel to London for a few weeks or even several months and learn English every day at school as well as in your free time, while doing sports, shopping or sightseeing. Daily use of the language means that progress in English will not be long in coming and motivates participants enormously. Enjoy the exciting life in London in addition to the school activities, order fish 'n' chips in English and quickly gain confidence in the foreign language thanks to the daily training. If you are interested, ask the language travel providers in London directly about accommodation with a family connection. This is another way to learn English even faster.

Questions and answers

Even if you opt for a language course in London where you only have four lessons a day, you will learn more in two weeks than in five months at a language school in Switzerland. This is partly due to the fact that you have lessons five days a week, of course, but mainly because you will continue to speak English after the English course. You are usually forced to speak English, be it with your teachers, fellow students, sales clerks or the waitress in the pub. The more you do and the more you talk to other people, the more you will learn and the more you will be able to apply what you have learned in class. So make sure, however tempting it may be, that you don't only have contact with Swiss, Germans or Austrians during your language study trip to London, but look for people with whom you need to speak English in order to understand each other. If you want to learn English as quickly as possible, staying with a host family is the best option. This way, you will hear the foreign language from morning to night and also get to know the British way of life. Joint activities and excursions in the evenings or at weekends are often organized and carried out together, so that you are not only supported linguistically, but also socially and culturally.
For language travel to London, many language schools have a minimum age of 16, which means that language courses in England's capital are also ideal for teenagers. Special youth language trips or school language trips are offered for this purpose, which are completely geared towards the needs of this age group and offer participants excellent support even after the course ends. Most language schools also offer a wide range of leisure activities and excursions to London or the surrounding area, especially at weekends. Only a few language programs are offered for children and teenagers under the age of 16. If you are therefore looking for an English course for your younger child, language camps that take place here in Switzerland and where he or she attends a language course for a few hours a day or even half a day, depending on age, and is well looked after the rest of the time, could also be suitable. These language camps can either be booked with overnight accommodation or as day courses only, so that your daughter or son can always come back to you in the evening.

Language trips to London are an excellent way for adults to improve their English skills and enjoy a great cultural leisure program at the same time. The selection of language schools and language courses is very large, so you are sure to find the ideal offer. Business courses are also on offer, and some are even specially tailored to individual target groups, such as doctors or lawyers. However, there is usually a minimum age requirement, which is often 25, but can vary depending on the English school. Recently, there have also been an increasing number of English courses aimed at people aged 30+, i.e. those who are older than 30 and would like to learn among their peers. The same applies to 50+ language courses.

There are no fixed rules as to which qualifications teachers must have in order to be allowed to teach language students. Nevertheless, this point is extremely important, as only well-trained language teachers are able to impart the required knowledge to your students in a professional manner. When looking for a suitable language school for your language travel to London, make sure that only native speakers work there who have at least the TEFL qualification, the certificate for Teaching English as a foreign language, similar to the Swiss SVEB certificate. Very good schools only employ language teachers who have one of the recognized Cambridge certificates, such as the CELTA, the Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. You can also find out about English language schools with high qualifications from the EnglishUK association and the British Council.
There are very different types of courses offered by language schools in London, some of which are more or less demanding in terms of time. You can often choose standard courses where you attend between 15 and 20 lessons per week, i.e. between 3 and 4 lessons per day. Depending on the language school, each lesson lasts between 45 and 60 minutes (or 90 minutes in exceptional cases), which means that you will usually attend an English course in the morning and have the afternoon at your leisure. However, language travel to London can also take up a little more time, as is the case with intensive language courses, which often have a duration of 30 weekly lessons. In this case, you will be busy with language lessons in the morning and a few hours in the afternoon, for example from 9 am to 12 noon and again from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm. Afterwards, you are free, but you should expect to have some homework to do before you can enjoy your free time. However, the weekend is always free and can be used for excursions and exploring London and the surrounding area. The language school in London often organizes various excursions that you can take part in if you are interested (not always included in the price). Even with intensive courses, you will have enough time to explore London, especially if you are staying for more than a week.
The majority of language schools in London offer English courses for every level, from A1 for beginners to C2 for professionals. As the demand for language travel to London is very high, you will hardly find a language school that does not offer courses for every language level. However, this only applies to the conventional language courses, but not to the Business English courses, which require participants to already have a basic knowledge of English to at least level B1, but usually B2.
Of course, there are not only standard or intensive courses that you can attend during language travel in London, but also business English courses. Almost all language schools also offer these, but there are also special business schools that specialize exclusively in teaching business English to very different target groups. You will find language courses that offer general business English as well as courses that teach lawyers, doctors, pharmaceutical representatives, secretaries, IT specialists or other professional groups specific terms, abbreviations and definitions that they need for their day-to-day work. However, it is usually assumed that participants already have a basic knowledge of English, usually at level B1 or even B2. If you do not have this level of English, you should consider a pre-course, either in England directly or at a language school here in Switzerland.
Business courses are also usually aimed at people over the age of 20, usually even from the age of 25. However, you should always check the minimum age with the language school in question, as this can vary considerably. Business language courses also offer you a more upscale ambience than standard programs, which can be noticeable in the rooms, but above all in the accommodation. This is usually a little more exclusive than usual and there are usually no small children in the household.
