The admission requirements for the federal vocational examination for sales specialists are as follows:
- Completion of at least 3 years of vocational education and training (Federal VET Diploma), Specialized School Certificate or Baccalaureate (or diploma from a state-recognized commercial secondary school) and at least 2 years of relevant professional experience
or
- Completion of a 2-year vocational education and training (Federal VET Certificate) and at least three years of relevant professional experience
The required professional experience must be available at the time of admission.

If you have completed a preparatory course for the Federal Diploma of Higher Education in Sales, you will normally receive a certificate of attendance from the schools. However, this is not identical to the Federal Diploma of Higher Education, so you will only receive this Federal Diploma of Higher Education if you pass the Federal Professional Examination for Sales Specialists.

The examination regulations do not make it compulsory to attend a preparatory course for the Federal Diploma of Higher Education in Sales, so it is also possible to take the examination without having attended a preparatory school beforehand.
