Training as a business economist: What are the main disadvantages?
After completing the business administration / business economics course, you will be able to take on management tasks or make them more efficient. You will be familiar with the development of personal leadership skills, strategic corporate management, internal management aspects, organization and personnel management.
The most important disadvantages of the business administration / business economist training are:
- The qualification following the business economist training is not a federal certificate. As a VSK certificate, the intermediate qualification in the form of an association certificate is known and recognized in the industry.
- At certificate level, the course content and admission requirements are generally not regulated and can be determined autonomously by the schools. However, if it is an examination that is conducted and monitored by associations, there is a certain degree of regulation for this certificate examination. This would be the case here for a VSK course with a corresponding title.
- The costs of around CHF 8,500 are not subsidized by the federal government if you are not taking a federal examination (e.g. Business Administration or Technical Business Administration). It is possible that the company will cover part of the costs.
- Even after the examination following the business economist training, the learning does not stop: If you are aiming for a qualified position in business management, you should consider studying Business Administration or Business Economics at a College of Higher Education or University of Applied Sciences. An alternative to this is postgraduate studies in Higher Education (NDS-CHE or CAS).
Graduates work as managers in a technical, commercial or industrial environment. In addition to management responsibility in all important areas of the company, they can also take on specialist responsibility, including significant involvement in the planning, decision-making, implementation and monitoring of business projects and processes. You will be responsible for sales and/or costs.
