Pedicurists look after the healthy feet of their customers. Their treatment contributes to the health and beauty of the feet and thus to the well-being of their customers.
The pedicure includes a foot bath, toenail trimming, cuticle and edge care, callus removal, sometimes the removal of corns and often foot or lower leg massages.
One important task is beauty care: pedicurists know the classic and latest trends in nail design and paint their customers' freshly groomed nails to match their style and personality.
Pedicurists carefully examine the feet and recognize when a customer needs medical foot care and must be referred to a podiatrist or doctor.
In addition, pedicurists advise their customers on personal foot care and hygiene and often also sell corresponding products.
The term pedicure (also: pédicure and pedicure) is synonymous with "cosmetic foot care" and "cosmetic pedicurist", i.e. the term stands for the treatment AND the person.
There are two types of foot care: cosmetic foot care, also known as pedicure, and medical foot care, also known as podiatry. Cosmetic pedicure only treats healthy feet. Sick feet (e.g. with diabetes or ingrown nails) belong in the hands of podiatrists.
