As a political municipality in the canton of Basel-Landschaft, Reinach belongs to the district of Arlesheim and is the second-largest municipality in the canton. Reinach - "Rynach" in Basel German - borders the city of Basel to the north. The town lies 303 meters above sea level at the southern foot of the Bruderholz in the Birs valley - the lowest point is 270 m above sea level and the highest 373 m above sea level. It also has a short border section with the city of Basel. The river Birs forms the municipality's eastern border. The dense alluvial forest along the river and the Reinacher Heide are considered great recreational areas with many botanical rarities and are a bird paradise. The line then runs via Reinach Dorf to Therwil/Biel-Benken and on to Allschwil (in around 45 minutes).
