Language schools Spain: Learn Spanish directly in Spain

Sun, sand and sea - these are the ideal conditions for a successful vacation. But why just go on vacation? Why not optimize your language skills at the same time? Many people are increasingly deciding to learn a new language or improve their existing language skills. In order to combine the pleasurable with the useful, people of all ages are increasingly opting for a language study trip to language schools in Spain.

Language schools in Spain spend several hours a day learning vocabulary and declining verbs, practising sentence structure and honing pronunciation. You then put what you have learned into practice in everyday situations with your classmates or with the waiter in the restaurant, the sales clerk in the boutique or the bus driver. Learning couldn't be easier.

If you too would like to brush up your language skills at a language school in Spain or learn this language from scratch, you will find comprehensive addresses and portraits at www.ausbildung-weiterbildung.ch. Find out in detail about the individual language schools in Spain and get some training materials that you can compare and study in detail.

Questions and answers

In general, you should not expect to meet teaching staff who speak German on your language trip. However, teachers are often able to speak English, although they only use it in emergencies. After all, you are supposed to learn Spanish in the language schools in Spain, so the lessons are held exclusively in Spanish.

Especially in the summer months, many language courses are quickly fully booked and the best accommodation in sought-after locations is taken. It therefore makes sense to start looking for suitable language schools and accommodation in Spain a few months before the start of your course. You should book around six months in advance if you want to travel in the high season, otherwise eight weeks is often sufficient. The earlier you book, the more likely you are to get a cheap flight or an early booking discount offered by some language school providers. It is therefore best to book your language study trip to Spain as early as possible.

There are a variety of accommodation options during a language study trip to Spain. These are for adult language courses:
  • Host family in a single room with half board
  • Host family in a double room with half board
  • Host family in a single room with private bathroom
  • Room or double room in a student residence with self-catering
  • Room or double room in student apartment or shared flat with self-catering
  • Hotel
  • Apartment / Studio
Other types of accommodation are also offered depending on the language school in Spain, which you should enquire about directly with the individual language schools if you are interested.
Most language schools in Spain offer various course models from which you can choose. These differ mainly in their intensity and duration. For example, you can choose a standard course, which usually has around twenty lessons per week and takes place in the morning or afternoon. If these four lessons per day are not enough for you, you can choose an intensive course which, depending on the school, has 25 to 30 lessons per week and therefore provides you with more in-depth knowledge of the Spanish language. Private courses or combinations of private and standard courses are also available.
Another model is the so-called special courses. These not only offer conventional language courses, but are also specialized. For example, there are language courses for seniors, 50+ or for teenagers. In addition, language schools in Spain are increasingly offering business courses that train you for your professional activities in contact with Spanish-speaking people. In addition, many schools offer diploma courses in which you are prepared for upcoming exams. These are usually DELE exams, Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera. Other special courses during a language study trip to Spain can be language courses combined with sailing, salsa or flamenco.

Only a small number of language schools in Spain offer a fully organized leisure programme that is included in the course price. Normally, you have a choice of activities, which change weekly, especially at larger language schools, and you can choose the ones you want to take part in, such as museum visits, wine tastings, dance classes, cinema visits or barbecues. Some sporting activities, such as football or volleyball, are often organized by the Spanish language schools several times a week, which anyone who is interested can usually take part in free of charge, as well as film evenings, parties or joint visits to pubs. However, all activities that cost an entrance fee, are expensive to organize or involve a third party (e.g. wakeboarding, bus trips or golf) must be paid for separately, as must weekend excursions to neighbouring towns or regions.

First of all, a distinction is made between youth or school language trips, adult language trips and business language trips, but there are also increasingly special offers for intermediate groups, such as for young adults or students, for families, teachers or in the form of internships abroad, volunteering and the like. The choice of trips abroad combined with language courses is immense and therefore offers attractive options for almost all age groups. Most language schools in Spain offer adult language courses aimed at people aged 18 and over, with no upper age limit. In some cases, those interested in learning a language can also take part in these courses from the age of 16, although this should be checked on a case-by-case basis. Normally, under-18s take part in so-called school or youth language trips, for which there are age-appropriate course combinations. As a rule, Spanish courses are offered for 12 to 17 year olds, with some schools also offering courses for 14 to 18 year olds. Youth language courses usually start with a minimum age of 12, although some providers do not shy away from offering language courses at language schools in Spain for children as young as 7. For adult language courses, the average age is around 25, which has prevented many older people from attending a language course in Spain. For this reason, programs have been developed that are specifically tailored to the 30+, 50+ or senior target group, meaning that all participants are at roughly the same age level. As a result, language trips to Spain are not a question of age, as they offer attractive language programs for both young and old. However, language courses are not only divided according to age, but also according to previous language level and objectives, so that beginners as well as advanced learners can attend a suitable Spanish course.
