Communications specialist: a job profile with all-rounder qualities

Digitalization has created new communication channels that have fundamentally changed the way we communicate. Every day, we are confronted with such a large amount of information that we are unable to perceive, absorb and process it all. Targeted communication is therefore more in demand than ever in order to place messages appropriately. Many factors need to be taken into account here, so communication all-rounders are required.

Communication specialists are such all-rounders. A communications specialist (formerly a communications planner) has a sound and broad basic knowledge of marketing communications. They work closely with and support communications and advertising management as well as consultants. They take responsibility for planning and coordinating the respective marketing and communication steps for various projects. A communications specialist acts as an important lynchpin for internal and external departments as well as specialists from the realization and production, creation, design, media or market research departments. In addition to preparing orders and offers, communication specialists also work in the areas of sponsoring and event management. For example, they organize and run various events.

However, they also have technical product knowledge, such as the individual production stages and production and manufacturing techniques. Also relevant for targeted communication and the successful implementation of projects are advertising law aspects, as well as schedules and cost monitoring, which also fall within the remit of a communications specialist.
